The Internet Went Nuts After Lorde Uploaded An Insensitive Bathtub Photo
While Lorde did not do it on purpose, with millions of people following her posts on Twitter and Instagram, she managed to piss off many people after posting a bathtub picture.
How can a picture of a bathtub posted by Lorde can cause so much trouble you may ask, and after seeing it, all becomes clear.
Lorde remained sweet hearted and apologized when she understood how offensive her post was, but the damage was already done.
So let's get down to business and see how this bizarre story unfolded.
Lorde is known as one of the only artists in showbiz that is non-controversial. She never seeks unwanted attention, and never got in trouble for her words, that is, until now.
It is indeed out of character for her to upset millions around the world, but at least one thing we can tell for certain. She did not see this one coming.
This post was not intended to hurt anyone, she genuinely wanted to upload a bathtub picture before stepping into the hot relaxing water after a laborious day.
She liked the idea of bathtub relaxation so much, she even uploaded the picture on
her Instagram account. So far, so good, so what was so upsetting with this post?
The problem was the caption:
Lorde did not think there was anything wrong with adding this caption to the picture,"And iiii will always love you."
This started an outrage and the internet lost their mind with anger with the connection to Whitney Houston and a bathtub.
She plainly didn't see the association between her caption and the terrible passing of Whitney Houston in 2012.
For those of you who lived on the moon in 2012, on February 11, Houston was found unconscious in Suite 434 at the Beverly Hilton Hotel, submerged in the bathtub.
Many people found the connection out of place and rude.
Lorde did not think about the connection when she posted it, so when her penny has dropped she understood the magnitude of her post, and why people were so angry. She felt horrible for her mistake and tried to make amends.
Lorde posted an apology to all her fans and followers and anyone who was hurt by this post, and you can tell, she really felt bad for her mistake. Her apology was:
"Extremely extremely poorly chosen quote," she wrote. "I'm so sorry for offending anyone — I hadn't even put this together I was just excited to take a bath. I'm an idiot. Love Whitney forever and ever. Sorry again."
Unlike many celebrities, this apology felt so real, as an honest mistake, so most of the people who read her apology decided to forgive her for the ridiculous mistake.
In the end, it was the wrong quote at the wrong time, but how can you stay mad at someone who was unaware of his mistakes and felt bad and apologies immediately after?
This mistake of posting something tactless in hindsight could have happened to anyone, you could have posted the same thing.
Her fans think she is very down to earth, that Lorde is not different than any other guy you meet on the street, and her reaction proves it.
We hope Lorde will remain the sweetheart we all adore, and if anyone is still angry at her, we suggest a nice warm bath.
