Mother Of 3 Became A Cosplay Queen After Losing More Than 150 Pounds!
We all have something to aspire to. A goal to be fitter, richer, kinder, smarter or calmer. We all have things in ourselves we seek to improve but we postpone them to a never existing tomorrow. Telling ourselves that whatever we want to change our life for the better can wait until this 'tomorrow'.
Meet Casey Gemmell and her inspiring story.
Casey is a single mother of 3, who transformed her life significantly for the better. In the process, she was able to finally seize her dream and make it come true, giving others the inspiration to do the same!
Her drastic change had started before this photo was taken.
A few years back from when this picture took place actually.
It started with her first pregnancy.
Ever since she was pregnant with her first child she started to steadily pack on extra weight. In her mind, she thought, "The baby comes first, focusing on my weight comes second."
Casey didn't have a clue about how much weight she actually gained.
She left herself wondering after she stopped weighing herself out of embarrassment when she went over size 28.
"I knew that I’d gained a bit of mum-tum over the years, but in my head, it wasn’t that bad," she said.
Casey realized the severity of her weight gain at her son's first birthday party. As a cosplay fan that she is, Gemmell was too excited to dress up for the superhero themed party.
Her excitement quickly vanished as she realized she couldn't fit her 5XL costume outfit she was planning to wear.
She tried to improvise but she was still unhappy with the result. Casey said: "When I first saw the party photos, I didn’t think it was me. I looked nothing like BatGirl, it was more like ‘FatGirl’." Afterward, she prevented herself from posting photos of the costume for that time around.
She then realized she had to make a change.
For years she got into the habit of pleasing her children through food. "We’d eat whatever we wanted and I often 'treated' us to takeaways. This continued over the years when I went on to have Willow and Xavier. I knew I was gaining weight, but in my head, mums were meant to be cuddly." she said. She knew this was not the right thing to do, so she decided to start eating healthy and this included her kids as well.
She no longer wanted to be that type of chubby mom she became. Casey felt like a prisoner in her own body.
Casey decided that enough is enough, for her and so she wanted to look the way she wanted to feel.
She knew this is for certain not going to be easy, but this is a hard journey worth taking, she felt it was time to claim back her life.
Casey wanted to be the superhero Bat-girl. She felt she could be, for the sake of her children and for herself.
Her transformation would be difficult as she had grown used to sneak food. She said "I’d pretend to throw away the kids scraps in front of Julian, but I always ate them. If I went out to get KFC dinner for the family, I’d often buy myself a chicken burger and eat it in the car on the way home.".
She knew that if she wanted to reach her goal of losing the weight, she would have to stop with the bad habit of eating what her children wouldn't.
No more eating her children's leftovers and no more unhealthy habits.
She would have to separate ways from her beloved junk food and sugary drinks.
As you can imagine, that is Not an easy task for most people let alone a busy mother of three!
Desperate for a change, Casey downloaded a running app. She was skeptical at first but she had faith in her goals.
"At first, I had no faith in the app or myself. The first run I went on, I didn’t even last 30 seconds without getting out of puff. But slowly, I improved, and that was enough to keep me motivated." .
Her life was changing with every healthy meal she chose over a chicken burger, with every exercise, with everyday that she chose to put her goals ahead.
These daily choices made her transform miraculously into a fitter, happier and more confident woman.
She grew more confident to conquer more goals. She kept pushing herself towards good things.
"Whenever I feel like giving up I ask myself "what would Ronda do?" She would never give up!!!!! Thank you for being my inspiration and never giving up!!! @rondarousey #rondarousey #rowdy4life #looseweightfeelgreat #66kilosdownandcounting"
"As I became slimmer, it became a goal of mine to fit into the costume I’d been busting out of. I dedicated myself to my target and ran every day, eating only salads and lean meats for dinner. Junk food was dead to me."
All her dedication paid off so much so that her old costume that she could barely fit into once, is much too large for her now. So she styled it right with a belt. Looking better now don't you think?
"At the convention, I posed for photos with my family - in full heroine gear - it was a real first for me. It was such an amazing achievement."
Now shes going for another direction in mind...
Since she lost all the weight she now focuses on doing cosplay!
Her outfits are a flattering combination of superhero style and also pin-up doll style.
She became a winning gorgeous woman that can achieve anything she sets her mind on.
